Hewlett-Packard Co. purchases ColorSpan Inc.

MacDermid ColorSpan Inc., a Minnetonka, Minn., manufacturer of wide-format digital inkjet printers, has been sold to Hewlett-Packard Co. Hewlett-Packard purchased ColorSpan from a unit of privately held MacDermid Inc. MacDermid acquired ColorSpan for an estimated $50 million in 2000. In 2006, U.S. Business Review reported ColorSpan’s revenue at $100 million. The company employs about 200 people who will join Hewlett-Packard. Robert Wenzel, MacDermid ColorSpan president, will lead the acquired company. Terms were not disclosed. ColorSpan, which was founded about 20 years ago, sells its inkjet printers to sign shop franchises, quick printers, and similar businesses. Hewlett-Packard will integrate ColorSpan into its Imaging and Printing Group.
