University claims development of strongest polyester fibers
Fabric Graphics | March 2009
A new fiber-making process developed at the North Carolina State University (NCSU) College of Textiles, Raleigh, N.C., has enabled production of what researchers believe are the strongest polyester fibers ever made. According to NCSU, the process, which has been used to produce fibers from two different polymers relatively simply, continuously and economically, is based on two established processes, taking them a step further with respect to controlling thread line variables, and modifying the molecular architecture to provide what is described as exceptionally high-performance fiber properties.
